The Amy Winehouse exhibition opens at the London Museum

NEW YORK,  A new exhibition opened in London this week to explore the life, music, and heritage of British singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse, a decade after her death at the age of 27.

“Amy: Beyond the Stage” from the Museum of Design traces the story of her early career through recordings and her teenage notebook to provide insight into her creativity.

“Queen of the Blues” also pays homage to a mix of select influences, from Dina Washington to DJ and music mogul Mark Ronson, to 1960s pop, moto, and jazz.

The show’s assistant curator, Maria McLintak, said Winehouse, who died of alcohol addiction in July 2011, has left a rich and diverse legacy in music and fashion.

He said, “What we’re trying to do is tell his story as a creative person, as a beautiful musician, as a fashion icon, but it also includes rare things. There are fans who may have heard of it but may not have seen it before”.

The show includes handwritten lyrics from the first unreleased demo and the first guitar he bought as a teenager.

Winehouse achieved international fame with the 2006 album Back to Black, featuring bee hairstyles, various tattoos, and a smoky voice.

The album, which went on to become a bestseller in the UK in 2007, featured Reeb’s song, which featured his struggle with drugs.

McLintock told AFP that in addition to describing Winehouse as “very good music”, the decade after his death was also a way to gauge his importance and influence.

As a sign of lasting interest in her life and work, the clothes she wore in her last performance sold out at auction earlier this month at a price of 243,200 (RM1 million), which is 16 times her estimated value. The fire

McLintak added, “One of the things that really excites me is that there are so many young people who haven’t grown up with Amy and who are so excited to be on the show.”

“So clearly and consistently encourage young artists.”

Mitch, Winehouse’s father, helped launch the show on Wednesday, which is open to the public on Friday.
